Hemorrhoids Piles Treatments

Hemorrhoids (or piles) affect as many as fifty percent of people and occur most often in the middle aged men and women. Hemorrhoids are a swelling of the veins in the anus that can happen internally or externally. There are many different treatments that are recommended for internal and external.

These piles can be caused by a few different conditions and more often than not medical doctors do not know the true cause. However, if you are able to pinpoint the cause of your hemorrhoids or spot piles symptoms, with prevention it will be less likely you will get them again in the future. One of the main causes is problems with bowel habits. This is often constipation or frequent diarrhea. Anything out of the ordinary with your bowel movements can trigger the growth of hemorrhoids.

The most common cause of hemorrhoids or bleeding external piles is constipation. It is because the straining and difficult passage of stool causes the veins to swell. In this situation it will help you to keep up your water intake and make sure that you have enough fiber in your diet. The recommended daily dosage is 25-30 grams of fiber. As a general prevention it is also a good idea to avoid too many processed foods.

Hemorrhoid piles can also be caused by prolonged sitting or standing. These positions do place unnecessary pressure to the bowel region and may lead to hemorrhoids if you do not get a break from these positions.

Some over-the-counter treatments available include hemorrhoid creams, gels and ointments. Also pads that are soaked in witch hazel also have a skin healing element to them and will help with the swelling of hemorrhoids piles.
